SUPPORTING CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE HOME EDUCATED OR DISENGAGED FROM SCHOOL
T.E.C WALES supports children and young people who are home educated or disengaged from school or who find school challenging.
At T.E.C WALES, we prioritise ensuring that every learner feels truly listened to and understood. We know that when education is tailored to be engaging and relevant to the individual, it not only makes learning more enjoyable but also encourages a lifelong habit of independent learning.
Our home education programs go beyond traditional academics. We are dedicated to nurturing each learner’s sense of self, helping them build confidence and promoting their overall wellbeing. By creating a supportive and enriching learning environment, we empower learners to explore their interests and develop the skills they need to thrive both now and in the future.
These programs are carefully designed to equip learners with a broad set of transferable skills, preparing them for whatever path they choose—whether it’s further education or entering the workplace. We believe that by fostering resilience, creativity, and a love of learning, we’re helping to lay the foundation for a bright and successful future.

CASE STUDIES
Please see the case studies below to gain an insight into what the typical result of the process is:
CASE STUDY A
T.E.C WALES was recommended to a family by a statutory service after a learner's mental health reached a critical state. Despite facing significant challenges, the learner demonstrated remarkable resilience by continuing to attend mainstream school while navigating the complexities of a neurodiversity diagnosis. At a young age, the learner exhibited exceptional strength of character by recognizing their own barriers to learning.
Following an initial consultation with the family, T.E.C WALES developed a highly individualised Education Plan (IEP) tailored to address the learner's basic needs. This plan was designed to rebuild the foundation that had been undermined by the daily experience of anxiety and overwhelm. A key component of the IEP was a daily self-care journal, in which the learner documented routines such as morning activities and personal hygiene practices, including brushing their teeth.
As the learner established a new routine and began to manage their anxiety more effectively, T.E.C WALES introduced topics aligned with the learner’s interests, including human biology, global cultures, and learning a new language. This holistic and mindful approach enabled the learner to achieve the equivalent of two full GCSEs, with continuous assessment and gentle guidance throughout the process.
Since completing the program, the learner has engaged in volunteer work and is poised for a bright and promising future.
CASE STUDY B
T.E.C WALES was approached by a family seeking support for a learner who had become disengaged from school and was experiencing significant anxiety. The traditional school environment was not adequately addressing the learner's needs, which were compounded by the challenges of navigating neurodiversity while awaiting a formal diagnosis. The strain of attending school had a detrimental impact on the learner's mental health and overall wellbeing.
During the initial consultation, conducted with both the learner and their family, it was evident that the learner was shy and anxious, with much of the communication occurring between the parent and the T.E.C WALES consultant. Through this discussion, the key barriers to the learner’s education were identified, allowing T.E.C WALES to begin developing a tailored Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Once the IEP was established and shared with the family, 1:1 sessions commenced. Over time, the learner began to show significant progress, gradually overcoming their initial apprehension. Through the Agored Cymru units, the learner has successfully completed coursework equivalent to half a GCSE. This progress was achieved by focusing on wellbeing strategies through integrating art and crafts, fostering independent learning, skills development, and enhancing resilience. It is with no doubt this learner will be successful in completing their individual learning plan and progressing onto the next qualification.
